$15.00

Friday Pre-Symposium

11:30-12:30 Lunchbreak Learning Session

Bring your lunch for the lunchbreak hour and leave with TWO play therapy interventions you can use that day! Presented by Professor Patrice Parkinson & Dr. Savannah Cormier

  • Define the core principles of foundational play therapy and describe how play functions as a therapeutic medium for children.

  • Identify the roles of the therapist, the child, and the therapeutic environment in creating a safe and developmentally appropriate play therapy experience.

  • Demonstrate an understanding of therapeutic limit setting by applying the ACT model (Acknowledge the feeling, Communicate the limit, Target an alternative) or a similar framework in play therapy scenarios.

  • Differentiate between permissiveness and therapeutic limit setting, and explain how setting limits supports emotional regulation and behavioral containment.

  • Describe at least one expressive play-based intervention, such as a feelings art directive, puppet role play, or basic sandtray scene building, and identify its therapeutic purpose.

  • Practice implementing a foundational expressive intervention in a mock or role-play session, including processing the child’s play themes and emotional expression.

Approved Provider #24-730

LUPINE Wellness Center is proud to host its first annual Play Therapy Symposium, an event designed to both support the continued growth of local play therapists and raise funds to support LUPINE and our programs. All services at LUPINE are provided either free (for A-State students and select therapy groups) or at low-cost via our sliding fee scale. Funds raised go directly to supporting our work to provide accessible, affirming mental health services and high-quality training experiences for future clinicians.

This event offers valuable professional development opportunities for mental health professionals (independent and provisionally licensed) and students interested in play therapy. Participants will gain A-State University approved* and Play Therapy Approved Provider contact/live continuing education credits that count toward the Registered Play Therapist (and Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor) credential/credential renewal.

NOTE: CE credit is only available to those in Mental Health field. Administrators, educators, parents, and general population are welcome to attend but may not find the content as relevant as other events promoted by LUPINE, and may not receive Play Therapy education credits toward the Registered Play Therapist credential.

*If using CE credits for mental health license, check with your individual licensing board to ensure they recognize A-State University and/or Association for Play Therapy Approved Provider status as acceptable CE.
